The results of Oscar 2013 were finally here. “Argo”, “Lincoln”, “Silver Linings Playbook”, “Les Miserables”, “Django Unchained” and “Life of Pi” won the big prizes. [Did you know]-you can share a quote to your friends and followers while reading with the Aldiko Book Reader

While reading, very often you may find a nice quote that you would like to share with your friends and followers. You can do exactly this inside the Aldiko Book Reader. Here is how:

(1) while reading, hold and select a quote/passage, you will then see a pop-up menu option, select “Share icon”;

(2) after that, you can share the quote on social networking apps such as Facebook, Twitter and Google +, email apps, note apps etc. Please make sure you have the apps that you would like to use to share the quote installed on your Android phone or tablet.

Last time we introduced tips about how to borrow eBooks from local public libraries and read them in the Aldiko Book Reader. Since then, we have been seeing many of you are using the Aldiko Book Reader to read eBooks from public libraries. Very often, you may finish reading a borrowed book before the loaning period expires. In this case, you can actually return the borrowed book to library early right within the Aldiko Book Reader so that it frees you a book quota to borrow another book. Here is how:

If you are at the shelf view of the Aldiko Book Reader library, just do a long press against the borrowed book, you will then see an option menu showing up, select the “Return borrowed item” option.

If you are at the list view of the Aldiko Book Reader library, just tap on the “More” icon on the right hand side of the borrowed book, you will then see an option menu showing up, select the “Return borrowed item” option.

That’s it. After that, your book will be returned and you can borrow another book from your library.

Aldiko Book Reader Hits 10 Million Downloads!

Earlier this year, we announced that the Aldiko Book Reader free version has reached 5 million downloads. Hooray! We’re excited to announce that we have just passed another pretty big milestone. As of this Wednesday, the Aldiko Book Reader free version passed 10 million downloads! It has been an impressive 2012 for us. Aldiko users has more than doubled and over 20 million books have been read within the Aldiko Book Reader. We have users from over 200 countries and the Aldiko Book Reader has been translated to more than 20 different languages.

Behind Aldiko is a very small development team that has a big vision. When we started Aldiko in 2009, we set out to make a reader that enables users to read and organize eBooks and documents with the best experience possible. We are also determined to adopt an open approach so that users can get eBook content anywhere and bring it to the app to read without any restriction, as opposed to some readers that will lock users to content offered by them only. We’re proud to see the progress of Aldiko. Meanwhile, we’re also very humble to serve each and every 10 million of you. We’d like to take the opportunity to thank all of you, whether you help us translate the app, help us beta test new versions, provide us feedback or simply use our app. it’s you who make our progress possible.

[Did you know]-you can borrow books from local public libraries and read them in the Aldiko Book Reader

With the Aldiko Book Reader, you are not only be able to shop for eBooks from the different third-party bookstores inside the app. You can also bring or download your borrowed eBooks from local public libraries in the app and read them on the go on your smartphone or tablet. Many public libraries are now loaning eBooks in Adobe EPUB or PDF formats, you can check with your local public library to see if they offer such service. There are 2 ways to bring/download borrowed eBooks into the Aldiko Book Reader, here are how:

Method 1:

(1) Go to your local public library’s website on your computer, select any eBook in Adobe EPUB or Adobe PDF format, check out and then download the eBooks file. Normally, library ill offer you an .acsm file for each eBook.

(2) Put the .acsm file in the SD card/internal storage of your smartphone or tablet.

(3) Open the Aldiko Book Reader (make sure you are using the latest version 2.2.3), select “Files”, locate the .acsm file, check the box next to it and then select “Import”.

(4) If you have verified your device with an Adobe ID already, the eBook will be automatically downloaded and imported into your library in the app. If you haven’t verified your device with an Adobe ID before, you should see a pop-up window that asks you to authorize your device with an Adobe ID. After authorization, the eBook will be automatically downloaded and imported into your library in the app.

Method 2:

(1) Open the Aldiko Book Reader, select the “Store” icon.

(2) At Store, tap on the menu key or overflow menu of your device (For overlay menu, it should be located at the top right corner of the Store, the icon looks like a 3 vertical dots). After that, select “My Catalogs”.

(3) At the “My Catalogs” page, select the Add “+” icon, which is located close to the top right corner. After that, type in your local library’s name in the Title box, type in the website of your local library in the URL box and then select “OK”.

(4) You have your library catalog set up in the Aldiko Book Reader. From now on, you just need to tap on the library name at My Catalog, you will then be linked to the library website where you can browse, borrow and download books in EPUB or PDF format . After download, the books will be displayed in your library of the Aldiko Book Reader.

Update of the Aldiko Book Reader Free Version is here!

We have just released an update of the Aldiko Book Reader Free on the Google Play. This update includes:

(1) 7-inch tablet support

The app now works beautifully on 7? tablets, such as the Nexus 7.

(2) Faster PDF zooming and remembering zoom level when turning page

With this update, you can zoom PDF files at a much faster speed. In addition, the Aldiko Book Reader will remember your previous zoom level when you turn pages.

(3) Importing .acsm files right inside the app directly

Yes, no third-party file management app is needed anymore. With Aldiko version 2.2.3, you can just go to “Files” in the Aldiko Book Reader, select an .acsm file and import it into the app directly. This will remove the hazels that you encountered previously.

Other items included in this update are faster book cover loading in library and in store, enhanced security to protect your database in the app, miscellaneous performance improvement and miscellaneous bug fixes.
