All Romance eBooks (ARe) has partnered with Aldiko to make their eBook catalog available to Google’s Android-powered mobile phones.

Palm Harbor, FL (PRWEB) October 1, 2009 – Readers will now be able to browse, search and seamlessly download more than 10,000 eBooks, including free reads, to their Android phones directly from ARe without a computer, cable or subscription using the Aldiko application.

With the Aldiko app readers can easily browse ARe’s extensive online book catalog, read detailed descriptions and book reviews, and quickly find the books they are looking for using a powerful search tool right on their Smartphone. They can organize their purchases by criteria such as title, author, or subject, edit detail information, tag, bookmark and search—all on a fully customizable display. New features include a full text search that allows readers to find words globally within the book, and a look up feature, which lets users search for a word in the dictionary, Wikipedia, or on Google.

“Readers love the convenience of being able to download ARe’s eBooks anytime, anywhere,” said Julie Cummings, ARe’s manager of Publicity and Marketing. ”Earlier this year we launched an iPhone compatible catalog and it’s been hugely popular with our consumers who use ATT. We’re really excited to now bring that same service to customers who use other cellular carriers,” Cummings added.

“Our mission at Aldiko is to provide an open platform where users can discover, access, read and manage a wide variety of digital publications instantly and seamlessly” said Tiffany Wong, co-founder of Aldiko. “The partnership with ARe will help us offer the best and broadest selection of titles to our users.”

28 O’Reilly Books Now Available as Android Apps Using Aldiko Technology

September 23rd, 2009

O’Reilly has made 28 of their titles available on the Android market as standalone book apps using Aldiko technology. These include  “The Twitter Book” , “Facebook : The Missing Menu”, “YouTube, an insider’s guide” and more. All of the book apps are under the “Reference” category on the Android market, you can see the full list here.

The standalone book apps were built on top of the Aldiko Book Reader, therefore, you can find most of the features of Aldiko, including navigation control, search, bookmark, dictionary, front, margin and alignment setting, day/night theme and more. We did remove the library and import features because they are not needed in standalone book apps. All of the books are in non-DRMed ePub format, you can easily export the ePub files to your SD card by using the “Export” function and import them to Aldiko Book Reader.

We’re excited to see how nicely color images can be displayed on Aldiko. We adjusted the images dynamically to the size of the device’s display, you can see the images as you go through the book and you can also do a long press on images to view and zoom them in a separate window.

Moreover, you can do a long press on any link within a book to open them on browser.

You will also find the “Forward/Backward” feature very useful in O’Reilly’s book apps. It allows you to go back to where you were before clicking a link to a different section of a book.

The apps also showcase how we handle some complicated materials such as source code and table on a small display.

We’ re glad to work with O’Reilly and we’re happy to see ePub handles images and complicated materials well.  O’Reilly’s books are well-known for their high quality, for prices ranging from $2.99 to $4.99, it’s definitely a great deal.

Grab some and read them on the go! Happy reading!

Aldiko now free and available anywhere – New distribution channel added

September 8th, 2009

Since Aldiko was released, we have received a lot of feedback from engaged users telling us how much they like Aldiko and what improvements they would like to see. We want to thank you all for your feedback. It is your appreciation which motivates us to deliver as high quality a product as we can.

However, a point that was raised on repeated occasions was that a lot of people who had interest in the app were unable to get their hands on it, simply because they are located in a country where the Android Market does not yet support paid applications. In order to make it as widely available as possible, we’re excited to announce that we have put Aldiko for free on the Android Market.

The paid version is still available as a “Premium” package, which we encourage you to get if you like Aldiko and would like to support us.

Moreover, we have also listed the application on SlideMe, thus making Aldiko available anywhere in the world (including countries where the Android Market is not currently supported). The Aldiko package can be directly downloaded from SlideMe’s website from your computer, or directly installed to your phone through the SAM application.

Thanks for your interest and support! Enjoy!

August 19th, 2009

Over the past 2 months, we’ve received a lot of requests for more content and more catalogs. Today we are thrilled to announce that we have partnered with Smashwords to bring their large catalog of free and paid content to Aldiko. Once you get the update, go to the ‘Download Books’ section and you’ll be able to browse Smashwords’ extensive selection of exciting fiction and non-fiction works from independent publishers and self-published authors.

Along with the new catalog, we also added a couple of new features over the past few weeks:

- Change the cover art of a book (long press the book in the bookshelf view to bring up the context menu)

- Open images in a separate viewer upon long press

- Backward/forward functions allow you to go back to where you were before clicking a link to a different section of the book

- Conveniently open links with a short tap gesture

- Options to turn pages with volume keys

We will continue to add more catalogs and features. If there is something that you’d like to see, we would love to know. Tell us here or send an email to feedbacks@aldiko.com.

Import your own EPUB books to Aldiko

June 9th, 2009

A heavily requested feature since last week is the ability to import EPUB files into your Aldiko bookshelf. We are excited to let you know that we pushed an update this morning that will enable you to do just that. Just copy your EPUB files into your SD card (in the eBooks/import/ folder), select the ‘Import’ option on the app’s home screen and it will automatically scan and import your books.

Another new feature is the ability to download EPUB books directly from the Browser. Click on any EPUB link on any webpage and you should be presented with an option to directly download the book to your Aldiko bookshelf.

We are grateful for all feedbacks that users gave to us. Please continue to send us feedbacks and help us spread the word.
